Final step to configure and share Internet connection with Squid Proxy on a server with 2 NIC’s. We explain a little about iptables so it can jump and masquerade the workstations. Also, 2 things I forgot to mention which I added an annotation at the end of the video 1. Pls. don’t forget to edit your /etc/squid/squid.conf and put: https_port 3128 transparent 3128 is the Squid’s port number. Transparent means you don’t have to manually specify the proxy server on each workstation so that if you have 20 clients you don’t have to go to each one of them. 2. Pls. also make sure that your client’s /etc/resolv.conf is pointing to your router or dns-nameserver that is add this line anywhere in that file. nameserver – is the router’s IP address. Good luck!

Troubleshooting: How to Use apt-get and wget Behind A Proxy Server

Posted by admin on Wednesday, 14 September, 2011

In this video I demonstrate how to configure your Linux (in my case Ubuntu Server) Box so that wget and apt-get work when/if you are behind a proxy server. This is probably not a common occurrence for most people, but anyone behind a proxy server knows how difficult things can often be. We use a proxy server at the school I teach at to monitor traffic, so I made this video specifically for my students. The proxy used at my school is port 8080, and throughout the video I use these proxy numbers. Just plug in your proxy IP address and port # where I have and hopefully this fix should work for you as well. Apt-get and wget are the most common was of downloading to your machine so getting them to work is extremely important. Hopefully this tutorial helps.
